Well I am one week away from acquiring my new car and I'm stoked. I have been carless since the end of January and it's been awful! Having to bum rides, cant go any where alone; not to mention I just love driving! Well I have done want I needed to to get back on the road and the day draws near when I will return to the road! it's all so very exciting if not also a little over whelming.

Why? well to be frank the car is a solid 70% car. It's mechanically tight. I have all the documentation and it has been very well taken care of. Well in that sense. the body has a few nicks and scratches. nothing terrible. will probably respray a few spots next year as there is one small spot of rust in the wheel wells but the under side is fairly clean. this is a northeastern car so it happens. the real issue is the interior, it's got bruises. the current owner uses a wheelchair and he just tosses it in the passenger seat. so yeah I need to replace a few trim pieces here and there. but the price is right and she only has 81k on the clock!

SO I guess the reveal.

I snapped these at work one day so yeah she's a bit dirty. and yes I know I know not a STS, expensive to fix, blah blah blah. I love these cars it's a mental disorder. They are great high way drivers and are wonderful for road trips. not terrible MPG either. No photos of the interior and honestly it's probably not that bad really minus the right center pillar cover trim. thats fucked. and the driver side interior door panel needs to be replaced to as it's also fucked on the bottom. it's a car that I will love (not my first but my 4th.) and it's so sound in every other way. I can't wait to get it to where I want it to be!

Kinja'd!!!

I got this for my birthday as well! haven't decided where it will go yet.

Jealous. The mechanic I apprenticed for had almost this exact car, 225k miles on it, and he treated it like a pickup.

I want one of these so bad. I have a weakness for FWD barges, Cadillacs especially.

You know it, LD8 all day. 275hp 300 ft-lb of fury and MPG. I'll take that MPG over the STS's 300hp LD7 any day. that extra 25hp really hits the MPG hard haha

Glad I'm not alone! and as long as you stay in the 2000+ range they are pretty damned reliable as long as you tend to normal maintenance. '99 and lower liked to eat your saving account by having gasket issues...

right! as long as you take care of maintenance they will go high miles no problem. I'm hoping to get her in shape and go over 200k with it!

Yup yup, that seems to be the only problem with the Northstar, it has gasket noms.

Be careful of the engine. Like all of it. Northstars aren't the most solid power plants out there. but in my experience (owned 2 northstar cars, Auroras, and was also a caddy tech for a brief time) these cars have a sweet spot for abuse, use too little, and gasket problems (why I'll never buy a "cream puff" north star) arise. Use too hard, and well, yeah. No shit you'll have problems. But there seems to be that happy middle where these cars THRIVE

Yes, had! I shall knock on wood for you now.

It'll be fine though, it's a 2000+ GM motor, that's about as reliable as reliable gets.

exactly! liek i said I have the full service history and all the weird shit these cars run into has been fixed up. being a caddy tech this will be all well known. the main ones being the trunk resealing, the gaskets on the throttle bottle replaced (they cracked and caused vacuum leak, this is normal) regular oil changes and coolant flushes with tests for gas leaks: all clean, so gaskets are good. it has newish brakes, sparkplus, coil packs, replaced both tie rods all with in the last 10k. he drives it like the northstar likes. not too rough and not too soft. the engine loves to sing!

Only thing I don't like is he's been running 87 octane all winter. said he stopped running the premium/atleast mid grade around October last year because he drives it less and didn't wanna splurge on it. rather dump the cash in his camaro. I mean hey sure it runs fine on 87 too, just not as good.

can't tell if joking or serious. hahaha lets not talk about the 3.4, the 5.3, the 3.2... and a few more.. but hey! atleast its ignition wasn't recalled haha meh the late model northstars really are great though.
